Spotlight on: Colin Shea

Typical of the energetic youngsters who help keep FCT alive and well, Colin first hit our stage as Peter Cratchit in "Charles Dickins' A Christmas Carol" five years ago, followed by one of "Oliver's" fellow orphans and pickpockets, begging for "Food, Glorious Food". Next was Nick in "A Thousand Clowns", his favorite performance to date. After that he was Ralphie's friend Flick in "A Christmas Story", the children's choir being told (or rather, sung) the story of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", one of the ruffian Herdman family in "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever", and a member of the Joe Hardy Fan Club in "Damn Yankees". Most recently, Colin was in "Children of Eden" last fall as Adam and Eve's third son doing a duet with his mother, also part of the multi-performer snake, then Noah's son Shem in the second act.

As with so many others his age, he has been very active in school productions, including various characters in Liberty High's "Our Town" and several one-act plays. Now a junior at Kettle Run, he has won a Best Actor award in one-act plays there, including the original "R&J Café" based on "Romeo and Juliet". In the Shakespeare original, also performed there, Colin played the rival suitor, Paris. He also performed in "Grease", and most recently was Lloyd Dallas in "Noises Off". Colin has also performed in the Falcon family's Barn Theatre in Catlett.

His other activities include Boy Scouts, playing drums, tennis, skiing (his favorite), Tae Kwon-Do where he wears a black belt, and launching rockets high in the sky, and maintains his own website "dedicated to expansion of knowledge and pursuit of happiness". Well traveled for someone his age, Colin has visited ten European countries, Switzerland with its lakes and massive Alps being his favorite. After another year at Kettle Run and hopefully FCT, he hopes to attend William & Mary or UVA, but this writer will remember him best as the workhouse orphan wishfully singing about a dish of ice cream "six feet high!"

Do you have a show in mind for the February slot next year? I have several people lined up who would LOVE to perform Rabbit Hole. We could provide a director and all the parts (3 women, 1 man), but would need to cast the 17-year-old boy.

Hi Kristy!

Would it be possible to include our Broadway music theatre camp in your promo?  I'd be more than happy to send you the info!

Cyndi,
Absolutely! I've been wanting to get with you about several combined efforts for advertising and promotion. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in a day :). I have an idea about possibly sharing a table at the VA Gateway Center. They do summer promos of community businesses on Wednesdays. I'm in the process of finding out more info. Hopeful you and I can work some of these things out to share costs. We should meet to figure out how we can help one another in these ways. I'm available to come to your facility anytime to discuss possible ventures this year together. I'm heading up our publicity/ marketing committee. Get me your Broadway camp info and I can get that out. Depending on when it is I possibly can get it into a Spotlight. Also, right now we have 42 kids in our next show (Willy Wonka), maybe you can promote the show and I can promote your camp to the 42 kids we already have here.
I have Willy Wonka flyers you can set out, too.

When can you meet? My availability is better during the days. I have Friday this week open or any day next week.
Thanks!
Christie

Thank you so much for offering. I have inquired about whether or not we will be having orchestra this season on any of our shows. I will let you know as soon as I find out!
