FCT was founded in 1978 by a small group of people interested in bringing live theater to Fauquier County. Holly Hammond ran a classified ad for two weeks in the Fauquier Democrat, calling for a meeting of persons interested in organizing a community theater.
Four months later, in November 1978, FCT produced its first play, Mary, Mary in the old auditorium of Highland School. Since then, FCT has brought more than 130 productions to the community.
