Synopsis! Dirty Work at the Crossroads is a comedic melodrama that tells in laughable style the tear jerking story of Nellie Lovelace, a country girl. Munro Murgatroyd is the classic villian in the play who is intent on selling some land underhandedly to the railroad. He has a wife Ida Rhinegold, belle of the New Haven Music Halls, but that does not prevent him from pursuing Nellie. Nor does it prevent him from driving Adam Oakhart, the blacksmith’s son to vices, or from blackmailing rich Mrs. Asterbilt, or from bewitching her daughter, Leonie. There are a number of places in the plot where old time songs are introduced.

See the Play in January and February, 2026! Enjoy some laughter and find out what happens at the crossroads! The play is directed by Marty Kelly, written by Bill Johnson, and produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. The play takes place on Fridays and weekends from January 23, 2026 – February 8, 2026. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees are at 2 pm. All performances will take place at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green, 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA.
