Synopsis: “Jesus Christ Superstar” is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life. Lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers, and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.”

The Story
The action is filtered through the eyes of 15-year-old Jay and his ginger topped brother, Arty, who is two years younger. When their father, Eddie, is forced to take a job on the road to pay off debt from his deceased wife’s cancer treatment, the two junior Bronx wise-guys are sent to stay with their unwelcoming Grandma Kurnitz for most of 1942. A steely Jewish refugee from Germany, Grandma lives above her candy store in Yonkers, but there’s nothing sweet about her. That deficit is countered by the boys’ over-excitable Aunt Bella, a mentally-challenged woman in her mid-30s, described by Jay as “closed for repairs.”

The Story
The Herdmans are a family of rotten children. They lie, steal, swear, fight, light things on fire, and are the bane of the community. When they get wind of the annual church Christmas pageant, they bully their way into the main roles and wreak havoc. But what some folks feared would be the worst pageant ever turns out to have a special quality that makes everyone rethink the real meaning of the Christmas story. This hilarious and heartfelt musical comedy, adapted from Barbara Robinson’s classic story, will have your family laughing and crying as we celebrate the holidays.

Has the past finally caught up with Dan and could he really be capable of murder? As the police close in, and with the press baying for blood, is anyone safe?

The Story
Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of biblical Jesus in the final days leading up to his crucifixion. A rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the musical has no spoken dialogue and is considered a modern rock-opera. Loosely based on the Gospels, Superstar focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people of Israel, and the leadership of Rome. Special attention is played to the relationship between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, as well as Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene. The musical is unique among biblical retellings in that it focuses on both Judas’ struggle making the decision to betray Jesus and Jesus’ human psychology, fear, and anger in understanding and accepting his role as both leader and martyr.

FCT has made some major improvements to the sound quality at the Vint Hill Theatre. With the help of professionals from Polysonics we identified the best approach to increasing the sound quality. We have replaced the acoustic wall panels in the theatre as well as upgraded our entire speaker system. The sound project of over $60,000 was completed in October 2018.

FCT’s project for 2019 is to improve the lighting at the Vint Hill Theatre. We will be replacing ALL of the theatre lights to LED lights. This will be more comfortable for our actors and provide much more flexibility to our directors.
