Local Fauquier County High Schools have requested that the scholarship application deadlines from community partners be extended to May 1. Fauquier Community Theatre is glad to extend the due date for the submission of scholarship applications. Fauquier Community Theatre invites college-bound high school seniors with demonstrated abilities in the performing arts to apply for scholarships. The Scholarship Application for 2020 is due no later than May 3, 2020, however, submitting prior to the deadline is recommended.
Fauquier Community Theatre (FCT) offers financial scholarships for local high school seniors who desire to pursue further education in the theatre arts. With the help of an FCT scholarship, young aspiring actors, actresses, musicians, and theatre technicians are aided in deferring the cost of higher education as they seek to acquire further training. All applications are reviewed by a committee and will be scored using a rubric system. The college scholarship awards will be based on a rubric of scores that include grade point average, interest in a career in theatre, participation in Fauquier Community Theatre activities, other theater experience, short essay questions on the form, letters of recommendation, etc.
Scholarships can range from $500-$2500 per student. In the recent past, FCT has awarded several $2500 scholarships to multiple students each year. Criteria: A college-bound senior with demonstrated abilities in the performing arts. These scholarships will be paid directly to the recipient’s school of choice to cover tuition, books, fees, or room and board. Please complete the online form by clicking HERE

Synopsis: “Jesus Christ Superstar” is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life. Lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers, and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.”

The Story
The action is filtered through the eyes of 15-year-old Jay and his ginger topped brother, Arty, who is two years younger. When their father, Eddie, is forced to take a job on the road to pay off debt from his deceased wife’s cancer treatment, the two junior Bronx wise-guys are sent to stay with their unwelcoming Grandma Kurnitz for most of 1942. A steely Jewish refugee from Germany, Grandma lives above her candy store in Yonkers, but there’s nothing sweet about her. That deficit is countered by the boys’ over-excitable Aunt Bella, a mentally-challenged woman in her mid-30s, described by Jay as “closed for repairs.”

The Story
Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of biblical Jesus in the final days leading up to his crucifixion. A rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the musical has no spoken dialogue and is considered a modern rock-opera. Loosely based on the Gospels, Superstar focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people of Israel, and the leadership of Rome. Special attention is played to the relationship between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, as well as Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene. The musical is unique among biblical retellings in that it focuses on both Judas’ struggle making the decision to betray Jesus and Jesus’ human psychology, fear, and anger in understanding and accepting his role as both leader and martyr.
